The British opened this field as a cricket ground. It is surrounded by several beautiful colonial buildings, including the old City Hall and Supreme Court. The field is used for numerous sporting activities, including as the main cricket ground for the Singapore Cricket Club and the Singapore Recreation Club, and hosts the National Day Parade every 5 years.
