Being there
Walk south from the Ginkaku-ji end; there are small cafés and shrines to stop at. Late March to early April is the best time.
The story
It's named after the philosopher Nishida Kitaro, who walked along this canal every day to think. The path is quiet, lined with cherry trees and houses, and the leaves turn red in autumn.
