The story
Taiwanese braised beef noodles are generally said to come from soldiers who arrived from the mainland after the war and cooked with the chilli bean paste of their home towns. The dish became Taipei's signature bowl. This shop has served it for decades; the broth is thick and spicy, and regulars order without looking at the menu.
