Huaxi Street Night Market
Being there
Have a bowl of danzai noodles and a plate of eel noodles, then a cup of herbal tea from one of the old shops.
The story
Next to Longshan Temple, this covered street was once famous for its snake shops, where vendors killed snakes at the door and sold snake soup to a whole generation of foreign visitors; it is often called Taiwan's first tourist night market. The snake shops have nearly all closed. What remains are stalls that have made the same Taiwanese dishes for decades, with fewer crowds and a calmer walk.
