The story
In 1948 workers from an arsenal in Qingdao came to Taiwan with the Nationalist government and moved into these hastily built low houses, where they stayed for decades. When Xinyi became Taipei's newest business district the military villages were cleared one by one; only this corner survived. Look up from the lane and there's 101: two eras, one road apart.
