The story
The Japanese built this public bathhouse in Beitou in 1913: red brick, timber and stained glass, a grand bath for its time. After the war it was abandoned for decades and almost forgotten. In 1994 a teacher at Beitou Elementary School took pupils on a local-history project and rediscovered the building in the weeds; teachers, children and neighbours campaigned to save it, and it became today's museum.
