Beitou Library
A library built entirely of wood: read after a hot-spring soak
A fuller guide to this place, built from 4 sources, is written in Traditional Chinese.
Being there
Come after a soak, take a window seat upstairs and watch the trees.
The story
From outside it looks like a large timber house hidden in the woods, with grass and solar panels on the roof and rainwater collected for the plants. When it opened in 2006 it was often called Taiwan's first green-building library. Many people come to Beitou not to borrow books but to spend an afternoon sitting here.
