SPOT Taipei Film House
Being there
Watch an art film, or just sit at the garden café and look at the white house.
The story
The United States built a consulate here in 1926, later the ambassador's residence. When the US cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 1979 the house was left empty for almost twenty years. Director Hou Hsiao-hsien and a group of filmmakers took it over and turned it into a cinema and café. In the evening the screen upstairs often shows films you won't find anywhere else.
