Raohe Night Market
Being there
Join the queue for pepper buns at the entrance stall and eat your way to Ciyou Temple at the other end.
The story
This was once Xikou, a small port on the Keelung River where trading boats moored, and Ciyou Temple, built in 1753, kept watch over the harbour. The river trade faded but the street in front of the temple stayed busy and became the night market. The pepper buns at the entrance bake on the walls of a charcoal oven, and when the oven door opens the whole street smells of them.
